PROJECT OVERVIEW

Residential Glazing & Structural Collaboration

Project Scope
Twelve years after completing a successful window and bifold door project in Stoneleigh, we were recommended by a previous client to undertake a large-scale glazing package for a new-build property in the same street. The project required close collaboration with the builder to address structural challenges posed by the installation of expansive curtain walling units and heavy glass panes. Initial assessments revealed the need to redesign aperture construction to accommodate wind loads and glazing specifications, as the builder had no prior experience with curtain walling systems.

Project Objectives & Innovations

  • Architectural Fidelity
Maintained close adherence to the original architect’s design vision while adapting structural elements to meet performance requirements.
  • Bespoke Brise Soleil Redesign
Re-engineered the front façade’s Brise Soleil feature to balance aesthetic appeal with functional shading and structural integrity.
  • Minimalist Structural Design
Eliminated horizontal steel supports by specifying robust curtain walling sections to carry wind and glass loads, achieving ultra-slim sightlines.
  • Solar-Control Glazing
Installed high-performance solar-control glazing across large expanses to reduce heat gain, enhancing both comfort and the building’s visual elegance.
  • Safety Compliance
Fitted all upper-floor glazing with safety glass to mitigate injury risks in the event of breakage or impact.
  • Weatherproofing Solutions
Achieved air and water tightness using EDPM membranes, expanding foam, silicone sealant, and purpose-made tape for all glazing junctions.
  • Custom Metal Sills
Fabricated bespoke pressed metal sills to conceal glazing details within apertures, ensuring a seamless finish.
  • Post-Installation Adjustments
Coordinated a ground-floor frame repaint from grey to black to match upper-level glazing, completed and guaranteed by our specialist team.
